The Toledo Mudhens, the city’s minor league baseball team is one of the older teams in the country – founded in 1896.Toledo retains that unique character to this day, and it remains a distinctive city with a growing arts community, many businesses, a thriving healthcare industry, well-supported local sports teams, and plenty to see and do. It eventually became a city known for its glass manufacturing industry, ultimately earning Toledo its nickname 'The Glass City'. After the completion of the Miami and Erie Canal in 1845 Toledo grew rapidly. Eventually, as more and more settlers arrived, the city of Toledo itself was founded in 1833. In the 1600s, European explorers first discovered the area, and throughout the 1600s and 1700s, both French and English traders lived in the area. The area that is now Toledo, like much of Ohio and the United States generally, was populated by several Native American tribes before its modern-day settlement. It’s a city full of friendly people with plenty to see and do, and it would make a wonderful place to call home. It’s also home to the University of Toledo and nearby Bowling Green State University, and several museums, restaurants, and galleries. It is home to nearly 300,000 people, a growing and thriving LGBTQ community, an active arts community, and several large companies, particularly in the automotive industry.
Located on the western side of Lake Erie, Toledo is the fourth biggest city in Ohio.
